Physical and Mental Health

As an organization of predominantly African American women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is uniquely positioned to impact not only the well-being of its membership, but also the well-being of families and communities at large. Our current initiative is the "Journey to Wellness" which addresses the challenges of living holistic and healthy lives. The initiative encourages behavioral lifestyle changes for the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of African-American families. We are committing ourselves to physical and mental well-being so that we are Fit to Serve Our Communities.

The Journey is composed of three campaigns:
  1. Catching, Coping & Conquering – focusing on chronic disease prevention
  2. My Cry in the Dark - focusing on the identification and management of mental illness; and
  3. Healthy Life Styles - focusing on healthy nutrition, physical activity and weight management.

Currently, chapter members are involved in a Journey To Wellness challenge, in which chapter members select a health and wellness goal to engage in healthy lifestyle changes in order to achieve, such as weight loss, daily exercise, and drinking water. The Physical and Mental Health committee will keep track of progress and offer encouragement through the year.
